This week we chat to Canadian starlet Jessica Ridley …

Who inspired you to go into the world of music?

I was inspired to get into country music by my parents – whether they knew it or not. It’s all we ever listened to whenever we were driving anywhere or listening to the radio at home. Music was a massive influence in my growing up years and I guess it just stuck!

What made you choose Country music?

I love country music because it’s REAL. I like to consider myself to be a very real person and I tell it like it is. That’s what country music does. It’s about life.

At what age did you want to become a singer?

I’ve always, since I can remember wanted to be a mom and singer! I don’t even remember when it started 🙂

What is on your iPod’s most played list?

Unfortunately for me, I don’t have a ton of time to just listen to music – the most played songs are ones I’m rehearsing for shows. But if I had my way, it would be Eagles, Toto, Rolling Stones, John Mayer, George Strait, Sheryl Crow…..

What was the first record you ever bought?

Shania Twain’s Come On Over.

And the latest?

Brett Eldredge’s single “Mean To Me”.

If you could play any instrument, what would it be?

I would be a great mandolin player if I had my way.

What’s the one thing you can’t live without?

As cheesy as it sounds, I would say I couldn’t live without my faith. In this business especially, I would have given up a long time ago, if I didn’t believe there was a purpose and a reason for me to be doing what I’m doing.

Do you prefer “Classic” Country or “New” Country?

For the most part, I would say classic country but every now and then a song comes along nowadays that has the same depth of content or at least fun that doesn’t involve a tailgate….

Do you have any superstitions or routines that you do before you perform?

I do not have any routines before I perform. In fact, the more stress, chaos and “under pressure” I feel before a show, the better I do!

If you could work with anybody, who would you choose to collaborate with and why?

I would collaborate with George Strait on a duet. He’s so my musical hero.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

In 10 years, I see myself making a living doing what I love, with a family that knows they come first no matter what.

What do you do to “relax”?

To relax, I love to have a nice glass of wine and spend some time with my favorite people or crochet 🙂

What is your favourite holiday destination?

Anywhere tropical!! Although I’m dying to see Paris and the Mediterranean.
