Who inspired you to go into the world of music?
I suppose it was my parents who made me take piano lessons as a kid. Then when I was a teenager I grew tired of playing the piano and picked up a guitar. I started to write songs to learn how to play, and the rest is history.
What made you choose Country music?
I don’t really see myself as country artist. I’m more of an Americana artist I think. I guess it’s been a slow progression from folk towards a more American style since I’ve been touring the U.S quite a bit. I don’t really think of genres when I write songs though, so it’s more in the production stage this happens.
At what age did you want to become a singer?
I never had a childhood dream of becoming an artist or a singer, it sort of just happened along with picking up the guitar. When I was a kid I wanted to become an archaeologist or a ballet dancer. But I’ve always loved to sing, and did all the basic stuff like being in the High School choir and such.
What is on your iPod’s most played list?
I mostly listen to Spotify, and I really like their radio function. You choose and artist or a song and it creates a radio based on that. Sort of like Pandora too. It’s a great way to find new music and new artists. But I’ve also listened a lot to Jason Isbell’s album Southeastern this past year. That’s a great album!
What was the first record you ever bought?
I think it was Pet Shop Boys “Behaviour”.
And the latest?
I haven’t bought albums in years since I have Spotify… hmm probably an Amy Mann album. Yes I think it was Amy Mann’s @#%&*! Smilers.
If you could play any instrument, what would it be?
Cello. I would love to play the cello, it’s such a pretty instrument. But I’d love to know how to play the banjo as well. I’m just too busy and too lazy to learn.
What’s the one thing you can’t live without?
Well apart from the regular stuff like air, food and water I’d say my husband. I don’t know what I’d do without him.
Do you prefer “Classic” Country or “New” Country?
It really depends on the song I think. I do love me some Glen Campbell!
Do you have any superstitions or routines that you do before you perform?
No, but I usually have a drink or two.
If you could work with anybody, who would you choose to collaborate with and why?
David Cobb, because he’s such a great producer.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Hopefully comfortably living off my music. I live off it now, but it’s so much work… I wish I’d have more time to focus on the creative part of it.
What do you do to “relax”?
I tend to the plants and flowers on my balcony and I like cooking. Basically anything where you have to be focused on down to earth things, or something else than your career.
What is your favourite holiday destination?
Nothing beats Thailand for me. I just love everything about it. The food, the beaches the people. I just wish I had more time for vacation, haha.
